African Union Summit Focuses on Climate Change Adaptation
Heads of state and government from across the African continent convened for the African Union Summit with climate change adaptation and renewable energy transition topping the agenda. Nigeria’s President delivered a keynote address calling for increased financing from developed nations to help African countries cope with climate impacts they have done little to cause.
The summit produced a declaration committing member states to ambitious targets for renewable energy deployment and calling on the international community to fulfil climate finance commitments made under the Paris Agreement.
